Camino Day 35: Vilachá to Ventas de Narón

After the huge storm last night the air was fresh and clear. Here we go, today marks 7 more walking days until we reach Santiago. Let’s do this!! Today was a day of steady climbing over 11 miles, some through shaded paths and others in the blaring sun along the road, passing farm fields with cows, which brings flies to our faces. We have found that using Vicks Vaporub on our skin and hair helps keep the flies away, even if just for a short time. For me, it was another day of swatting away the flies with my trekking pole straps and trying not to inhale them as I walked up hills; mouth open, attempting to breathe. At one point a woman passed by me and she said, “I know you”, and it took me a second to recognize her, and I laughed, and said, “Yes, yes, you were there when the dog peed on my leg” and she laughed and said “YES”! Haha! I guess I will be known out here as the “Pee Lady”. Today we hit the 79 km mark to Santiago. We reflected back when we were just 3 days in and passed the Santiago sign that read 790 km. It’s just so hard to believe the time that has passed, the people we have met, the things we have endured, the lessons we’ve learned AND the tears and laughs we’ve had.
