A great sucess of Maestro Placido Domingo in the new production of "I due Foscari" with thunderous applause at end of performance celebrating his 4100th performance in his opera career at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Plácido Domingo as Francesco Foscari, Jonathan Tetelman as Jacopo Foscari, María José Siri as Lucrezia and Riccardo Fassi as Jacopo Loredano. Personal record of Plácido Domingo, artist with more than 130 roles in the repertoire, who with the show of May 22 reaches the 4100 opera performance of his career. (Reported by Rai) https://www.rainews.it/tgr/toscana/vi... ****** In the role of the Doge of Venice, father of Jacopo, the great Plácido Domingo, who throughout his career has played the character numerous times. Among the most appreciated, acclaimed and famous tenors of the twentieth century, Domingo has been able, over the last few years, to establish himself, not only as a conductor but also as a baritone. In his almost sixty years of musical activity Domingo has built one of the largest and most eclectic musical repertoires of the twentieth century. His great vocal versatility, combined with deep knowledge and musical sensitivity and a natural propensity for professional study and languages have in fact allowed him to face a boundless number of roles, over 130 different. Countless collaborations, including an impressive discography, with some of the greatest conductors of the last half century including Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Leonard Bernstein, Carlos Kleiber and Bruno Bartoletti. With the performance of May 22, Plácido Domingo crosses his personal milestone: it will be the 4,100th performance of his bright career. Of this role, Plácido Domingo said: "I had the great joy of impersonating the 'two Doges': first in Simon Boccanegra and then, a few years later, in I due Foscari. I think it is an absolutely extraordinary opera by Verdi, even if, perhaps, little known: it is extraordinary to think that this opera was written almost simultaneously with the other release in the same year, Ernani, in 1844. A character, from a dramaturgical point of view, really wonderful. I see a lot, in the character of Francesco, of the pain that Verdi may have felt in that period, marked by the loss of his children and his wife. He's also an extraordinary baritone role, which I'm proud to have brought to Los Angeles as well. The cast is also really wonderful: from Maria José Siri, whom I know well because we have often sung together and a short time ago we were right here at the Maggio per Nabucco, when she debuted the role of Abigaille. Maria is a splendid singer; Jonathan Tetelman is also an extraordinary tenor. In this production the work of the director Asagaroff is simple but really effective, and it is also extraordinary to be able to collaborate with the master Carlo Rizzi, with whom I worked at the Metropolitan in September of '99 in a production of Cavalleria and Pagliacci. So I must say that I am really happy and amused to return to May, in this production that marks my 4100th performance as a singer! I started with Traviata, just eighteen years old, almost the same age as Alfredo Germont and now, at the age of 81, I play Francesco Foscari, who is my age as a libretto. I have had the pleasure of supporting this role in more than 30 performances. I really think that the character of Francesco suits me very much, and as already mentioned for me, this was the second 'Doge', after the "Simone", my first absolute role when in 2009 I switched from the tenor register to the baritone one." https://www.maggiofiorentino.com/comu...
