Addressing the crowd, he thanked everyone that "rose up to stay by my family" during his captivity. Hamas militants burst into his family home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz on October 7 2023. They forced Miran and his family into their neighbors' home where they held the two families captive. The attackers had just killed the neighbors' 18-year-old daughter. They then broadcast a Facebook livestream of their hostages in the kitchen, before kidnapping the fathers, Miran and Tsachi Idan, to Gaza. Miran's two young daughters were two years and 6 months old at the time. Idan’s body was released during the last hostage exchange after he was killed in captivity. Hamas militants have now returned the remains of 17 hostages since the start of the ceasefire. The remains of 11 others are still in Gaza and set to be turned over under the terms of the agreement. In return, Israel has returned the bodies of 195 Palestinians to authorities in Gaza without providing details on their identities. It is unclear if they were killed in Israel during the Oct. 7 attack, died in Israeli custody as detainees or were recovered from Gaza by troops.
