China tested an automatic train control system on the Liaoning Section of the Beijing-Shenyang High-Speed Railway in northeast China's Liaoning Province on Thursday, signifying China's achievement of a landmark success in independent innovation of smart high-speed rail technology. The high-speed test train left Shenyang North Railway Station at 08:45 local time, with a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour when running on the section from Shenyang to Heishan in Liaoning Province. The train successfully underwent automatic parking, startup and running during the test. The driver of the train still sat at the driver’s seat to monitor the operation. "I would need to operate, examine and identify all these things. But now, with the ATO, namely the automatic train operation system, I actually serve as a backup system. There is a redundancy relationship between me and the system. It’s working while I’m monitoring. It has actually freed my hands," said Zhang Kai, high-speed train driver at Shenyang locomotive depot, Shenyang Railway Bureau. The test will last until the end of September. The testing results will be applied in the construction of intelligent high-speed rail between Beijing and Zhangjiakou, and also between Beijing and Xiong'an New Area in north China. Now the automatic driving technology has been used in inter-city lines between Dongguan and Huizhou, and between Foshan and Zhaoqing in south China's Guangdong Province at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour. It has so far functioned well. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20180607...
