Today Tim Miner from the Edible Learning Lab is going to show us how to extract the bacteria, nutrients, and fungi from worm castings to use elsewhere in your school garden. Vermicast is worm castings, a nutrient-rich material that can be used to make “compost tea” or “worm tea”. The tea can be used as a soil drench in raised beds. It offers the same benefits as compost, but without taking up space in your beds. Materials needed: Worm castings (vermicast). 2 Tbs Molasses. Cheesecloth. Zip tie. S hook. 5-gallon bucket. Aeration pump. Process: 1) Treat water if necessary and add molasses. 2) Tie up castings into cheesecloth bag with a zip tie. 3) Use S hook to hang on the side of the bucket with the bag in the water. 4) Put aeration stones into bucket. 5) Let sit for 24 hours. 6) Dilute 1 part tea to 5 parts water to drench. ----------------- Timestamps/What's Covered: 00:27 What are worm castings? 01:20 Tools/Ingredients 03:14 Aerobic vs anaerobic production 04:05 Treat the water 04:56 Add the food source 06:04 Add the worm castings 07:42 What's in the compost? 08:48 Start aeration stones 10:05 The finished product Don’t forget to like and subscribe to our channel and pop your questions in the comments below. ----------------- Connect with us: Website: https://zipgrow.com Facebook: / zipgrowtm Instagram: / zipgrowinc LinkedIn: / zipgrow-inc ------------------ Learn: UpStart University- https://university.upstartfarmers.com Blog- https://zipgrow.com/zipblog/ Guides & Manuals: https://zipgrow.com/grow-guides/ ------------------ Shop: https://shop.zipgrow.com/ Music by: Scott Gratton http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Sco...
