It is Trillium seed collecting time! We grow all of our trilliums from seed, which is a simple but time consuming process (about 5 years from seed to a saleable flowering plant). Trillium seed are coveted by ants and wasps because of their elaiosomes - small sacks filled with fats and proteins that serve as a nutritious snack in exchange for seed dispersal. Once the seedpods feel a little soft and break easily from the base, it is time to collect them!
