Five Characteristics Of The Best Deck! What Makes A Yugioh Deck Good?

Throughout the history of Yu-Gi-Oh!, all of the top tier yugioh decks have all shared these 5 different characteristics/traits! These are what allow decks to succeed, and the lack of them equates to failure. Relevant Literature: The Three Characteristics of The Best Deck - Patrick Hoban: http://articles.alterealitygames.com/... Seven Traits of The Best Deck - Mike Flores: http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article... The Five Characteristics of The Best Deck In YGO: 1. Power - Deck's Ceiling & Speed 2. Consistency - Drawing Well & Not Bricking 3. Efficiency - Managing Resources & Recovery 4. Utility - Access to a Variety of Cards and Effects 5. Diversity - Ability to play and win in different ways Each make up the total picture of what a deck can do and how viable it can be in the metagame. The traits aren't equal, and through the analysis of previous formats and fitting the data to comparative estimations of each decks' traits, I've found the importance of the traits to fit best when weighted with a 3:3:2:1:1 ratio. Historic Example: Zoodiac Beasts (Fusion Sub) In terms of Power, you could draw a ton of cards and put multiple threats on board in a single turn and in a matter of minutes. They could deal damage whenever they wanted with Boarbow or by just attacking over things with a boosted Drident after clearing opponents' threats. When you draw 7 cards and set up defense and a follow up, that's well above average: 5/5 Power The deck was extremely consistent due to having 3 Ratpier, 3 Tenki, 3 Zoodiac Barrage, plus every other Zoo monster being at least Drident. There weren't really any bricks that jeopardized the combos either. Spooky. 5/5 Consistency Efficiency: As mentioned before, you could turn a few cards into a lot of them pretty easily, so they had high efficiency plays, and then had the recovery of Zoodiac Combo and Daigusto Emeral. Above average consistency but not the ability to play infinitely. Main combo couldn't be done multiple times due to the inability to recycle Fusion Sub. 4/5 Efficiency. Utility: Access to 3-4 different (good) main deck monsters + 4-5 different extra deck Zoo monsters and a rank 4 engine gave Zoodiacs a solid amount of Utility. Especially when considering the small size of the engine allowing most to play a high number of variance cards, Zoodiacs had more utility than other decks at the time. However due to the first 3 characteristics, there weren't many other decks lol. I'd estimate they were around a 4/5. More Utility than Infernoids and Metalfoes, but less than Infernoids. Finally when it came to diversity, Zoo was underrated, but far less linear than they appeared. You didn't need to always combo, you could play around every single hand trap; you could manage all 3 resources and win with any of them as well. Zoo's biggest weakness was Fire for sure, but compared to decks like Infernoids (The next best deck then), Zoo was leagues ahead in every regard. Zoo could be played as either a beatdown or control deck too. The only diversity issues that Zoo faced was the reliance on XYZ summoning, which opened them up to cards like Dimensional Barrier and other floodgates, but they could play around those too. In fact, I have a whole video about how Tyree beat me at a regional while playing around my defense and really showed me how skillfully the deck could be played. Link:    • The Difference Between Pros and Average Yu...   Diversity: 4/5 Now if we sum up the scores along with the weights: (5*0.30)+(5*0.30)+(4*0.2)+(4*0.1)+(4*0.1) = 4.6/5 An insanely high score! From historic data, I've more or less concluded tier lists to be roughly as follows: Tier 0: (4.5, 5) Tier 1: (4, 4.5) Tier 2: (3, 4) Unmentionables: X less than 3 For some reason, YouTube descriptions don't allow brackets, so I'm forced to use interval notation here... so scores between 4.5 and 5 are generally decks powerful enough to be tier 0 decks. Tier 0 decks might be the type of deck to take up 50% or more of a YCS and win multiple Premier Events in a season. Tier 1 decks have the ability to top a YCS, but only in small numbers Tier 2 decks have the potential to top regional level events Unmentionables are unlikely to top regionals, but can still be very fun to play. To compare, in this current format, I have Sky Striker Trickstar scoring about 4.4, which is sort of in line with this. It's borderline tier 0 and can dominate a YCS or WCQ, but it will never solely dominate a format in the way Zoodiacs, Nekroz, or Dragon Rulers did.
