Visit Date: 12/7/25. The Mishe Mokwa Loop is a popular one in the Santa Monica Mountains. The largest draw is to visit the range's highest point at Sandstone Peak. Beyond the peak, the area gets somewhat limited visitation. The area is surrounded by peaks that are available for climbing. If it was my intention to climb each, the hike would have taken much longer than it did. I concentrated on a few in order to complete the loop in a timely fashion. There are other combinations of hiking routes that I can take to knock off many of the other peaks in the area on a different type of hiking trip. Otherwise, it is great to see that this area recovered so nicely after getting thoroughly burned in a recent fire.
