Prepare for changing seasons: Molting can be triggered by changes in daylight hours and temperature, helping them adapt their plumage for different times of the year. Natural growth and development: Young cockatiels will go through molts as they mature and their adult plumage develops. The Molting Process: Gradual: Molting isn't a sudden event but a gradual process that can take several weeks to months, depending on the individual bird's health, age, and environment. Increased feather loss: You'll notice more feathers than usual at the bottom of the cage. Pin feathers: New feathers grow in encased in a waxy sheath, called pin feathers.
