Over the years, I’ve helped hundreds of clients to file for disability benefits. People may not realize there are situations in which you could file for benefits, in addition to a personal injury claim and/or a workers’ compensation claim. Hello, my name is Jeff Roberts. I’m an attorney in Calloway County. I handle personal injury cases including car wrecks. I also focus on workers’ comp claims and yes, social security disability claims. Here’s some information you might find helpful. Social Security Disability benefits are there for injured people with a work history. If you’ve suffered an injury on the job, you may be entitled to file for workers’ compensation benefits and SSDI benefits at the same time. This combination of funds can help you to make ends meet, especially when your normal paycheck is no longer there. The federal government has another program called Supplemental Security Income. This is for people who most-likely don’t have a work history, but still need a safety net. SSI benefits can be paid to both adults and children. We often see these cases when people are dealing with low cognitive abilities and some sever, psychological challenges such as bi-polar, anxiety, PTSD and others. All of these types of cases are handled on a contingency fee, which means I only get paid once a financial award has been made. The attorney handling a contingency fee case generally receives a percentage, up to a specified cap if it’s a social security and/or workers’ compensation case. Depending on the situation, court costs and related fees will also be deducted from the settlement. That’s a standard arrangement across the country. If you have questions regarding your eligibility, or a family-member’s eligibility for SSDI or SSI benefits, I’d be happy to speak with you. You can call my office at (270) 753-0053 to schedule an appointment – or we might be able to handle it over the phone.
