Many thanks to "davekni" for his solution to fry the internal diodes. / @davekni CORRECTION: According to this • What's inside an Over drive flyback transf... and this • Flyback Transformer Teardown videos, apparently late flybacks are wound in layers, not on a slotted spool (some pics on G-images are misleading è_é), the primary and service windings are in the inner part of the cylinder, so this means that MAYBE you don't need to put the external primary on the bottom part of the core, because the higher voltage is right behind the outer shell on all of it's surface (we have to thank this for giving us some space to wind a primary on the outer side, bcs air spacing from the outer HV layer and the core helps insulation), it's still a sensated practice to put it low anyways, bcs you can't tell (much) if it's slotted or layered, even if spreading a winding all over the core length is suggested (but not improving very much), also all of this means that the primary you wind will attract the HV a lot anyways bcs such external primary is QUITE NEAR to the HV end, posing a risk of flashover or corona greater than using its original internal one :END_CORRECTION Maybe this can't substitute a flyback actually intended for AC but it has been fun, an AC flyback (bought or from a really old TV) usually has a lower secondary resistance and a more reasonable amount of secondary turns. I need to get rid of the oil, the oil container seems to attract insects and moths, i had to scoop a mid sized moth from the transformer while it was drowning, i tried CPR but it was slippery -_- .... 0:36 What you need 2:03 The actual procedure(s) 8:03 Stray capacitances problem 9:46 Corona problem 11:19 Thoughts about the core 12:05 Experiments but with poor results 12:55 Tesla coil mode 14:09 The setup 15:14 ACTION!!!
