Die Nichtinvasive Beatmung (NIV), auch Maskenbeatmung genannt, ist eine Atemhilfe, wenn die Atemmuskulatur durch die ALS geschwächt wird. Die Maskenbeatmung wird während eines kurzen Krankenhausaufenthaltes angepasst und kann zu Hause genutzt werden. Mehrere Studien haben gezeigt, dass durch die NIV die Lebensqualität und Lebenszeit erhöht und belastenden Symptome reduziert werden können. Mask ventilation is adapted during a short stay in hospital and can be used independently at home. Several studies have shown that NIV increases the quality and duration of life and can reduce stressful symptoms.
