Garrett Brown, Inventor of the Steadicam In First Episode of DCS Series on the Language of Camer...

Garrett Brown, the legendary inventor of the Steadicam, does a deep dive into camera movement and how it should be informed by the processes of human vision. He also gives a little background on his invention, the Steadicam.   This is the first episode in the Digital Cinema Show series on the Language of Camera Movement and Support. From the earliest days of cinema, movement has been an important tool for storytelling. How the camera is supported, panned, tilted, raised, lowered, trucked, flown, or armed are critical aspects of what the filmmaker is trying to communicate. In this program, we aim to explore the many ways a camera can be operated or moved, the benefits of each, and what those various methods might express to the viewer.  This first episode was recorded in February 2024 with Canon cameras and lenses at Canon Burbank. Our volunteer crew included Cinematographer Enrique Del Rio and Camera Operator Nathan Weiland Smith. James Mathers served as Producer and Editor with the assistance of Christopher Scott Knell.   Special thanks to all our DCS sponsors, but especially Cartoni and Tiffen, without whose additional support this production would not have been possible.
