This is part 1 of 2 showing my return visit to Frenchman's Cap. In May 2006, I took 5 days to do the walk via the Loddon Plains to Lake Vera Hut, then to the old Tahune Hut and climbing to the summit on the third day. The 4th and 5th days were back-tracking to the carpark. My first visit was an arduous affair, fighting my way through the 'Sodden Lodden' mud. To add to my misery, it rained for most of that first day. Almost defeated, I talked myself into continuing on and made to the summit on a glorious day. In January, I made my return trip, just three months short of 20 years later. I'm sharing the two walks with you over a two-part series that includes some images of my first trip.
