Keris, an asymmetrical dagger known for its wavy blade and spiritual symbolism, has long held a sacred place in Malay culture. In traditional Malay weddings, the Keris is worn proudly at the groom’s waist, symbolizing honour and responsibility. But beyond its ceremonial role, what deeper stories lie behind the blade and sheath? As generations pass by, fewer keris makers remain to share their stories. We now stand at risk of losing one of our most important crafts that shapes our identity as Bruneians. Our documentary uncovers the history of keris making – a nearly extinct art of blade-forging and woodworking in Brunei. Follow Pg Zulqarnain, the last active keris maker in the country, as he takes us behind the forge to demonstrate this meticulous art of keris making. Through his journey, we rediscover the origins of this timeless craft and witness his efforts to keep our nation’s heritage alive. And perhaps, along this path, he begins to answer a long-standing question of his own: Who am I?
