Real Coal Burning Steam Locomotive Thomas The Tank Engine Pulling 8 Large Railcars! Strasburg Railroad Steam Engine #89 At Railroad Crossings In Strasburg Pennsylvania. Fast Amtrak Knocks Down The Signal and gives train horn salute to the railfans. Listen to the stack talk on Thomas as he approaches the railroad crossing at the park. We also see a spring switch ( SS ) and learn how they work. Spring switches automatically switch back to the mainline as the train passes from the siding to the main. This saves time and work. Norfolk Southern Railroad actually has spring switches on their main lines. I have seen them in southern Indiana. There is a spring switch on NS near Georgetown, Indiana on the line that goes into Louisville and down to Danville, Kentucky. Look how fast Amtrak is booking in this video! I got them at Paradise, Pennsylvania at the interchange with Strasburg Railroad. We got an awesome train horn salute and then notice the signal drop from green to red as Amtrak passes it. This is called "knocking down the signal" in railroad jargon. Right after Amtrak passed it started raining. I wanted to film Thomas run around his train and then couple back on for the trip back to Strasburg. It was raining so hard that my camera got wet and I was having difficulty operating the camera.
