Enhancements: Floppy Drive sounds, Fast floppy speeds. Emulator Used: Vice (Official) Machine: Commodore 64 Developer: Time Warp Productions Publisher: Rainbow Arts, GO! Media Holdings Played: Played to stage 11. Thoughts: Great Giana Sisters is a well known and well regarded Commodore 64 game. The C64 game is the original version. It was programmed by the legendary Manfred Trenz who is really well known and the music is by Chris Hülsbeck is probably more well known than Manfred Trenz these days. Great Giana Sisters plays a lot like Super Mario Brothers and I'm pretty sure had a hack exists that made Giana the female hero of the game into Mario. The game is about Giana who wakes up from a long sleep and finds herself in a mysterious world were she has to get through thirty-two levels. Great Giana Sisters is inspired by Super Mario Brothers and there is even a fire flower like powerup, however the powerups look different. There are also a lot of different score ups as well. These can get you a life up extension if you get a high enough score I believe. The game for the most part is pretty well designed, but it can get pretty difficult if you lose a life in later stages as some parts can be difficult to get past without the fire flower like powerup. This game was ported to the Amiga, Atari ST, and Iphone. There were sequels as well. These were Giana Sisters DS for the Nintendo DS and Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams for Steam, PS3, Xbox 360. I recommend Checking out Giana Sisters for the C64 it is a really good one. I actually have a physical copy for the C64. Not sure if it works anymore due to bit rot though...
