Welcome to Update Emma, the latest software update in our named update series for the What Caused This platform. As always, this update has been shaped by client feedback and delivered by our product and UX teams in collaboration with our development partners. Thank you to everyone who continues to help us refine and strengthen the platform. Below is a summary of what’s new. 1. Clearer Cause Level Terminology Following user feedback, we have retired the term “cause dominance” and replaced it with clearer, more familiar terminology. Cause boxes can now be classified as: • Primary Causes – Solutions here typically stabilise events quickly. • Contributory Causes – Addressing these strengthens systems for the longer term. • Root Causes – Intervening at this level creates the opportunity for meaningful organisational transformation. 2. Visual Indicator for Further Analysis We’ve also made a UX improvement for causal chains that require deeper exploration. The previous grey chevron icon has been replaced with a clearer orange question mark symbol. Small Changes. Meaningful Impact. Update Emma introduces subtle but powerful improvements: • Clearer cause tier classification • Better alignment with formal reporting expectations • Stronger connection between understanding and action • Improved visual clarity in analysis charts We hope you find these enhancements valuable in strengthening structured understanding across your organisation.
