Over 7000 children in 23 schools in Isiolo and Meru have benefited from a feeding programme aimed at ensuring they go on with their education following the ravaging drought that has affected more than 4million people in the country. The schools have received foodstuffs such as; maize, beans, cooking oil to feed children most of whom had dropped out due to lack of food. The headteachers said most of the pupils have to cover long distance to walk school and that the nomadic nature of pastoralist communities worsens the situation. The parents are happy because now children can feed happily and not the poisonous wild fruits that many were feeding on. They are hopeful that the feeding programme by Lewa wildlife conservancy will help the schools improve their mean scores from what they managed in last year and general development of the children. They teachers also calling upon more well-wishers to join in and support the schools in the hard hit areas.
