They really enjoy the opportunity to come in and practice in a safe environment. We incorporate our simulation training into almost every class and throughout the semester. So that they have the opportunity to be in this environment and feel comfortable in a clinical setting. We worked on transfers into bed mobility and so it was really cool to be in the acute care setting and work together as a team to get a patient out of bed, (and) into the wheelchair. Interacting with the simulation technology was a very good learning experience for us. And it's really fun. We had a great time working together and just got some Giggles out as well as just learned some new skills. Working with the simulation technology is really cool because it allows us to integrate all the skills that we learn in the classroom and bring it into real life. So the skills of empathy and teamwork and communication and all these things that we get to practice. We went into the two-dimensional simulation room and we got to practice answering questions with our peers. And we also got to simulate going into someone's house and pointing out the different hazards that might be in there. I think it's really important and it's going to really help build their adaptability. I anticipate the Sim lab helping me by allowing me to develop the skills that I need that I can only learn through hands on activity as well as build my confidence for when I go out in clinic. So when they get into the clinic they are able to know what lines and tubes they're going to encounter. They know how to work the bed. They know how to interact with the patients and they feel comfortable in that environment. It also helps our students in the clinic because they know that they have gotten the chance to practice these skills so they're not surprised A big reason that I chose HSC was the opportunity for the interprofessional education. The Sim Lab being one resource that we have to really work on our communication and teamwork skills with other professions.
