The ‘Alta Via del Sale’ (High Salt Road) begins in the south at Colle Melosa and runs for around 58 kilometres to Col de Tende / Colle di Tenda in the north. The road is a former military road that still largely follows the course of the border between Italy and France. The border divides the French Maritime Alps with the Roya Valley and the Ligurian Alps in the Italian province of Cuneo. The altitude of the route is between 1800 and 2100 metres throughout. The route is usually described in two sections, which are formed by the Colle Tanarello. Other access routes to the ‘Alta Via del Sale’ can also be chosen at this point. From the west from the French Roya Valley and the village of La Brigue and from the east via the Italian village of Monesi di Triora. The southern section from Colle Melosa to Colle Tanarello is around 20 kilometres long and is open to traffic in good weather. The route is a gravel road with some very stony or rocky sections. The last section a few kilometres before Colle Tanarello is particularly steep and rocky. The northern section leads from Colle Tanarello to Colle di Tenda after approx. 38 kilometres. The largest and most beautiful part of the northern section is subject to a toll. The northern section is completely closed to motorised vehicles on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Otherwise, the road may be used between 08:00 and 18:00 (entry until 16:00); in high summer until 20:00 (entry until 18:00). There is a toll of €15 for motorbikes and €20 for cars. The route is a gravel road that was newly prepared in 2018 and is therefore in very good condition. The road is generally easy to drive on. The road is located in the Italian province of Cuneo in the Piedmont region. ▬ Content ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00:00 Intro 00:00:15 Prolog 00:01:32 The Ride 01:00:23 And the Mavic spoke... 01:04:24 Outro ▬ Links ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Playlist Italy: • Italy / Italien Playlist Passes: • Passes / Pässe WalkTheMavic: / @walkthemavic4197 ▬ About this channel ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Walk The Mavic (WTM) - Interesting roads, passes and gorges in the Alps - Nature and landscapes - Castles, forts, fortresses and fortifications - Photos and videos, if possible and allowed, also aerial photos/videos with the drone.
