At the upper end of the passage through the Gorges de Bachelard and at the start of the northern ascent to the Col de la Cayolle is the hamlet of Bayasse, which consists of only a few houses. At this point you will also find the turn-off to the east into the Vallon de la Moutière. The path through the valley leads quite directly east from Bayasse either to the Col de la Moutière (2444 meters) or to the northern ramp of the ascent to the Col de la Bonette. The gravel road begins shortly after Bayasse, but here it is still in good condition and therefore easy to ride on. However, the condition of the road deteriorates noticeably as you continue. The hairpin bends become tighter, the ascents steeper and the surface changes to very coarse, loose rock. However, the route always leads through a very scenic alpine landscape. After around 9 km, the route through the valley joins the largely asphalted connecting road between the northern ramp to the Col de la Bonette, around 3 km to the north, and the Col da la Moutière, around 500 meters to the south, from where it is also possible to continue to Saint-Dalmas-le-Selvage. Part of the route through the valley is located in a nature reserve and should therefore only be used with due consideration for the flora and fauna. There is a general winter closure for motorized vehicles from 1 October to 15 June. During the rest of the year, the route is open to traffic in both directions.
