Recorded on Aug 13, 2018, with ems318 (Eric Sturniolo). The core of the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in downtown Atlanta contains ten passenger elevators and two pairs of service elevators. Of the ten passenger elevators - four serve the low-rise guest rooms (floors 15-45), four serve the high-rise guest rooms (floors 45-70), and the two central elevators serve all of the guest rooms (floors 15-70). The two pairs of service elevators lie on either side of the passenger bank - one pair serving the low-rise and one pair serving the high-rise. And of course, traversing the building's exterior is a famous pair of glass elevators (the Sundial elevators), serving the restaurant on floor 72. Comparison to Detroit's Marriott at the Renaissance Center: The central tower of Detroit's Renaissance Center (the Marriott) contains twelve elevators at its core: six serving the low-rise guest rooms (floors 9-40) and six serving the high-rise guest rooms (floors 40-70). Unlike its Atlanta counterpart, no elevator in the Ren Cen serves all of the guest floors. The Ren Cen also contains two pairs of service elevators on either side of the passenger bank, serving low-rise and high-rise floors respectively. Also, not to mention the pair of glass elevators serving the Highlands restaurant on floor 71. Both the Westin Atlanta and the Detroit Renaissance Center have a radius of 95 feet (29 meters) and a height of approx. 720 feet (220 meters). Therefore, one may conclude that Atlanta has a more efficient elevator system, given that Atlanta has ten passenger elevators whereas Detroit has twelve. In both buildings, each floor has at least six passenger elevators serving it. Why didn't the Renaissance Center (built one year after the Westin) follow the Westin's lead? Based on the public accessibility of the two buildings, the architectural appeal, and the Ren Cen's pending partial demolition, the Westin Peachtree Plaza is my preferred destination.
