Roslan, N. S., Yusoff, M. S. B., Morgan, K., Ab Razak, A., & Ahmad Shauki, N. I. (2022). What Are the Common Themes of Physician Resilience? A Meta-Synthesis of Qualitative Studies. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 19(1), 469. https://doi.org/10.3390/ijerph19010469 This video presents a meta-synthesis of qualitative research to establish a clear conceptual model of resilience specifically within the context of physicians. Acknowledging that medical professionals face high rates of burnout, the study aimed to synthesize existing findings to better inform strategic interventions. Researchers ultimately identified six primary, interconnected components essential for developing resilience: tenacity, resources, reflective ability, coping skills, control, and growth. The conceptual model developed argues that resilience is a dynamic process supported by both the physician’s own efforts and the environment. This leads the authors to conclude that addressing burnout requires balanced efforts, focusing on both physician-directed interventions and necessary organizational changes within the healthcare system.
