Enjoy the unique self-propelled Rail Bus gliding over the tracks. Rail buses are used on low patronage section of Indian Railways to cater to small villages or towns limited to 50 Travelers. The bus was built in 1997 by BEML, it has a Ashok Leyland engine, similar to the truck engines. It has a seating capacity of 52 seats. The Rail bus first plied betweenthe Kolar - Bangarpet 17 KM Section, after the upgrade of the railway track from metre gauge to broad gauge.The bus was later replaced by a DEMU due to increase in patronage on that section. The bus was later operated on Yesvantpur - Nelamangala 22 KM section where the patronage was pretty poor. Owing to losses the Rail bus was withdrawn once the Nelamangala - Hassan line was opened for service and was replaced by a Conventional Passenger train. The Rail Bus now runs on 29 KM Comissioned Bagalkot - Khajjidoni Section in North Karnataka. The line is a part of the Bagalkot - Kudachi new line which is still under construction.
