This module describes the importance of aggregate abrasion value in the wearing courses. As the abrasion test will represent the wear and tear of the aggregates due to the impact and rotation probably the same situation the aggregates were exposed to when laid as the wearing courses in flexible or rigid pavements. This test will stimulate the conditions of field and gives a valuable insight in the selection of material. Aggregates with high abrasion values are not suitable for wearing courses as this will have an impact on the durability of the member.
