This Episode starts off with a trip to Middle-Earth on Wellington’s Rover Rings Tour. We cross the Cook Strait and make our way to Nelson for a little bit of sunshine before heading up to Cape Farewell for an epic hike. We wrap up with 3 days of Kayaking outstanding Abel Tasman National Park, one of New Zealand's great walks. Chapters: Introduction 0:00 Day 33: Owhiro Bay (Wellington) 01:23 Waking up at this stunning free camping location we decide to walk along the coastline to the Red Rocks and Hells Gate spotting New Zealand Fur Seals along the way before we have a camp lunch and head into Wellington. Day 34: Rover Rings Lord of the Rings Tour (Wellington area) 07:22 A journey into Middle-earth with Rover Rings Tours discovering all the local filming locations from this epic Academy Award winning trilogy along with the Weta Production Caves. We re-enact some of our favourite scenes during our last full day on New Zealand's North Island. Day 35: Wellington - Pelorus Bridge via Malborough Sounds 13:00 After crossing the Cook Strait we arrive back in Picton as we journey across the famous Queen Charlotte Drive taking in the sights of the Marlborough Sounds. We stop for Green lipped muscles in Havelock then relax at our campsite on the Pelorus River. Day 36: Pelorus Bridge - Nelson 16:23 We decide to take a walk along the Pelorus River which was used for filming in The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug for the barrel riding scene. The forest surrounding the river was pristine and great for a little fresh air before driving up to Nelson for the afternoon/night. Day 37: Nelson 19:45 We spend the day in Nelson, hiking up to the 'Centre of New Zealand' monument and having a delicious lunch by an Argentine food truck in town. We also take advantage of Black Friday sales and stock up on gear for our 5 Day Abel Tasman Kayaking/Hiking Adventure. Day 38: Nelson - Cape Farewell 22:51 Before departing Nelson we stop off at Tahunanui beach for a walk on the beach and ice cream, then head up to Te Waikoropupu Springs an important location for the Maori people in the area also know as being the biggest natural springs in Australasia and among one of the clearest in the world! From here we head up towards Cape Farewell for a bit of free camping near a native sea bird reserve. Day 39: Cape Farewell/Wharariki Beach 29:11 An epic day taking in some of the sights in the remote northernmost cape of New Zealands South Island. We start off with a loop track onto the sandy dunes of the spit, discovering both sides of the cape, coming up close to native Fur Seals and new born lambs. After arriving at our Wharariki Beach Campground we undertake an epic coastal hike along the seaside cliffs and over rolling farmland to the Cape Farewell point and lighthouse. We finish up with a spectacular sunset on Wharariki Beach, with its high cliffed and archway islands recogniseable from the factory standard windows 10 desktop wallpaper. Day 41: Abel Tasman Kayaking Day 1: Marahau - Te Pukatea 40:53 After a day of torrential rain getting to Marahau from Wharariki Beach we start our Abel Tasman adventure under perfect blue skies. We attend a quick instructional/safety demonstration at Abel Tasman Kayaks before we hit the water. Pristine beaches and an island with a Fur Seal colony highlighted our first day. Watching the young seals play in the water right next to our kayak and walking to the lookout point above our beach campsite were unforgettable experiences! Day 42: Abel Tasman Kayaking Day 2: Te Pukatea - Mosquito Bay 48:51 After a rough start to the morning paddling against strong headwinds and exploring a nearby lagoon we arrive at the Mosquito Bay Campsite. A picturesque location that is only accessible by kayak, the campsite is surrounded by a turquoise lagoon and has a stunning lookout to a nearby island. We walk out onto the tidal flats in the afternoon and view thousands of black muscles on the rocks. Day 43: Abel Tasman Kayaking Day 3: Mosquito Bay - Awaroa Campsite 56:05 We start the morning with a snorkel, accompanied by a fur seal before kayaking to Onetahuti Beach where we leave behind our kayak and begin the hiking section of our journey. Crossing the golden sands of this idyllic beach we hike up over the hill down to Awaroa lodge crossing expanding tidal flats just before sunset on route to our campground.
