Homily of Sunday, March 01, 2026 : Second Sunday of Lent Theme: Climb the mountain and listen to Him First Reading Genesis 12:1-4a Responsorial Psalm Psalm 33:4-5,18-20,22 Second Reading 2 Timothy 1:8b-10 Gospel Reading Matthew 17:1-9 On this Second Sunday of Lent, the Word of God calls us to ascend the mountain. In the First Reading, Abraham hears a simple yet demanding call from God: Leave your country and go to the land I will show you. Abraham has no map or clear answers; he only trusts. He walks by faith, not by sight. That act of faith makes him the father of all believers. Lent challenges us to do the same—to leave behind fear, routine, and self-reliance, trusting that God is guiding us even when the path ahead is uncertain. The Gospel takes us to another mountain. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John with him and is transfigured before them. His face shines and his clothes become radiant. Moses and Elijah appear, representing the Law and the Prophets. In this moment of glory, the Father speaks words that are meant not only for the apostles but for us as well. "This is my beloved Son; listen to him." The transfiguration does not remove the cross from Jesus’ path, but it gives light and strength to walk towards it. God allows the disciples to glimpse glory so they can endure the scandal of the cross. This mountain experience resonates deeply with our daily lives. We all bear crosses such as sickness, family struggles, disappointments, and unanswered prayers. Lent does not deny these realities but invites us to see them in the light of Christ. Going up the mountain means creating space for prayer, silence, and listening. It involves stepping away from constant noise and distractions to be alone with the Lord. Like Peter, we may wish to linger in moments of consolation, but Jesus leads us back down the mountain to live the Gospel in tangible love and faithful witness. Saint Paul reminds us in the Second Reading not to be ashamed of the Gospel but to share in its hardships. Strength comes from Christ, who has defeated death and illuminated life. This week, we are called to nurture virtues of faith like Abraham’s perseverance in prayer, attentive listening to God’s Word, courage in witness, and hope during trials. Let us climb the mountain with Christ, so that, transformed by His presence, we may carry His light into the valleys of the world. Prayer Lord Jesus draw us up the mountain with you. Quiet our hearts open our ears strengthen our faith. Teach us to listen trust and follow even when the path is difficult. Transform us by your light and lead us faithfully toward Easter. Amen. #InVerboUnum #SundayHomilies #CatholicHomilies #LentSeason #Transfiguration #ListenToHim #FaithJourney #PrayerAndLife
