78019 barks through Leicestershire | Great Central Railway 12/06/2025

It had been a while since I'd done a trip on the Great Central Railway so I decided to enjoy a mid-week running day. Not knowing which loco would be running, I was hoping for one of the Standard 2MTs and so was pleased to find 78019 standing on the front of the train when I arrived at Loughborough. I started the day with a run to Leicester North and back as far as Rothley and the first shot captures a very noisy departure from Leicester, the loco having to work hard to lift the 6 coach train up the gradient and make up time from our late departure. We next see 78019 coasting past the well-known spot at Kinchley Lane, before ending the day with another loud performance, this time at Thurcaston with the 2MT accelerating hard up the bank out of Rothley at the start of the single-track section to Leicester.
