While I do use it for hydrogen-dominant SIBO, it's typically avoided for those with hydrogen sulfide dominant SIBO or sulfur reducing bacterial imbalances, as garlic is full of sulfur and not well-tolerated in those conditions. A while back, in one of my first videos, I put together a selection of treatments for methane SIBO, including eating some fresh garlic, which can help reduce or treat methane SIBO. However, I got lots of comments and feedback from viewers mentioning caveats, like garlic being high in FODMAPs and contraindicated in SIBO, as well as personal experiences of not tolerating garlic. In response, I want to clarify that if you moderately tolerate fresh garlic, there is a payoff for consuming it as a herb. I typically recommend crushing and consuming one to three cloves a day. If you wind up with symptoms after eating garlic or simply don't tolerate it, then it's not going to work for you. Allicin rich garlic extracts may be more suitable. My recommendations for SIBO treatment will always be individualised based on your unique circumstances, and garlic may or may not be appropriate for you.
