Volvo XC60 D5 first gen. AC not working all the time.

Air-conditioning was only working sometimes. There could be a few reasons for this like a faulty pressure switch. With mine it was the radiator fan motor. There are two fans on these, the smaller one is for the AC and it runs all the time while the AC is turned on. As a result it wears out quicker than the large fan that only comes on when the engine is hot. Volvo dealers only sell the entire unit including the shroud and it is expensive compared to just replacing the AC fan motor. There are a few different versions of these depending on year and engine configuration. To be sure what your part number is you will have to remove it and check before you order. It is a fairly easy job and didn't take me very long, about an hour the first time.
