🗳️ The Referendum: How It Works Every eligible voter (over 127 million citizens) will receive two separate ballots at their polling station: White Ballot: For the Parliamentary Election (selecting a local MP). Pink Ballot: For the National Referendum. The referendum asks a single, bundled question that requires a simple "Yes" or "No": "Do you approve of the July National Charter (Constitution Amendment) Implementation Order, 2025, and the proposals for constitutional reform as recorded in the July National Charter?" 📜 The July National Charter: Key Reform Pillars The "July Charter" is a political covenant signed by over 25 political parties. It aims to install "guardrails" against future authoritarianism through several radical shifts: 1. Executive Accountability Term Limits: A strict 10-year (two-term) cap on the Prime Minister’s tenure. Dual Roles: A ban on the Prime Minister simultaneously serving as the head of their political party. 2. Legislative Restructuring Bicameral Parliament: Introduction of a 100-member Upper House to review legislation and check the power of the lower house. Article 70 Reform: MPs will be allowed to vote against their party's stance (except on money bills or no-confidence motions), ending the "party-slave" system. 3. Electoral & Judicial Integrity Caretaker Government: Permanent constitutional restoration of a neutral interim body to oversee every national election. Independent Appointments: Establishing an independent commission for judicial and Election Commission appointments to remove executive influence. 4. National & Civic Identity Inclusive Identity: Changing the constitutional definition of citizens from "Bangalees" (ethnic) to "Bangladeshi" (civic) to protect all minorities. July Uprising: Granting formal constitutional recognition to the 2024 revolution and legal protection for its participants. 🛤️ What Happens After the Vote? The result of the referendum determines the legal mandate of the next government: If "Yes" Wins: The newly elected Parliament will be legally transformed into a Constituent Assembly for its first 180 days. Their sole mandate during this period will be to codify the Charter’s proposals into the permanent Constitution. If "No" Wins: The Charter is rejected. The incoming government will govern under the existing constitutional framework, likely signaling a return to the political status quo. This referendum is more than a policy vote; it is a "People’s Mandate" that places the power to redesign the state directly into the hands of the citizens. #BangladeshElection2026, #JulyNationalCharter, #BangladeshReferendum, #NewBangladesh, #ConstitutionalReform, #PowerToThePeople, #DemocraticTransition, #BangladeshPolls, #SecondRepublic, #YunusInterimGov, #PeoplesMandate, #BangladeshPolitics, #VoteForChange, #HistoricMomentBD, #ReformBangladesh
