This Dennis Galuszka-built golden gal was the first guitar I played this morning, and I am not sure if anything else I play today will reach the bar that it set! In fact, it was so impressive that I may just take the rest of the day off, since I'm pretty sure that playing this guitar will be the apex of my day. Why did I fall in love so hard and so fast? Well, for starters, I love this bridge pickup the way most people love their firstborn--it's that good! It's EXACTLY what I hear in my head when I think of classic Tele tone: woody, focused midrange, tight lows, and a ridiculous amount of sweet even-order harmonics in the high-end. I love to say that guitars have a "bell-like high-end" when they produce lots of blooming overtones in the high-end after the initial attack, and this bridge pickup's lush, beautiful trebles are certainly deserving of that descriptor, but they are more responsive than normal. Squeezing the note and picking hard reveals an angry, dark side of this serial's bridge pickup that's perfect for searing solos and nasty rock rhythms. This wide dynamic range and perfect frequency response curve are what make this bridge position an all-time favorite of mine. But let's not neglect the neck pickup, because it equally deserving of praise for the way it won me over. Growing up listening to punk music shaped my taste in interesting ways, and I rarely find myself using anything but the bridge pickup when I play for myself. So, I rarely get addicted to the neck position (although I understand why people love it!). That was decidedly NOT true for this serial; in fact, I got a little bit lost and probably wasted a little bit too much of my morning fiddling away on it because I found it so inspiring! It has the same dry, tight low-end as the bridge pickup, but its resonance is deeper and vaster. Ordinarily, huge sounds like this turn me off because they lack definition, but this serial's neck pickup still sounds clear because its resonance emphasizes the fundamental. The low midrange is pleasingly woody, and the upper midrange has a soulful, vocal quality to it. The trebles are also still surprisingly lush, though they are more transparent to promote greater clarity. This Dennis Galuszka-built beauty is one of my favorite Teles of all-time, and for good reason. After all, if it can teach a punk like me to love the neck position, it must be pretty special!
