Thursday, 3 July 2025 – At the second Queensland Media Club networking lunch of 2025, Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie MP gave his first update of the Brisbane 2032 Delivery Plan. 100 days after the 100-day review was handed down he announced an updated joint funding agreement had been reached with Canberra and procurement for some venues was now open. Following the announcement and signing of the agreement, both the Deputy Premier and Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King MP took questions from the Queensland Media Gallery. These questions are listed below: 00:28 – Compère Hayden Johnson (The Courier Mail) welcomes Deputy Premier the Hon Jarrod Bleijie MP to the stage 01:24 – Deputy Premier, the Hon Jarrod Bleijie MP addresses the QMC 18:01 – Federal Infrastructure Minister, the Hon Catherine King MP addresses the QMC 29:38 – Deputy Premier and Minister King exchange letters from State and Commonwealth Government to seal the deal for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games 30:04 – MEDIA Q&A SESSION: (Hayden Johnson, Courier Mail) Deputy Premier, you talk about the work starting at Victoria Park. When can Queenslanders expect to see tangible work? Shovels in the ground, concrete rising in Victoria Park? 31:07 – (Hayden Johnson, Courier Mail) One thing you mentioned in your speech but didn't touch too deeply on was Brisbane Arena. It sounds like we're not going to get Brisbane Arena before 2032. Can you make a guarantee that we will? 32:13 – (Hayden Johnson, Courier Mail) You mentioned in your speech, too, you'd like to see more transport investment from the federal government, Minister King, are you open to that? How much money will Queensland provide? Perhaps we could just get our GST back? 33:39 – (Fraser Barton, AAP) I asked you when the delivery plan was announced in March about workers in construction and how we're going to get all these workers. How is the government progressed that? 36:18 – (Alex Brewster, ABC News) You've refuted reports about the infrastructure around Victoria Park Stadium this morning. When can we expect to see the detail of things like a potential train station, pedestrian bridge and even a warm up track around that stadium? 38:28 – (Harry Clarke, Sky News) How committed are you to holding Olympics rowing on the mighty Fitzroy in Rockhampton, given the resistance, including that which is coming from internationally? 40:23 – (Hayden Johnson, Courier Mail) Your sports minister colleague said he is certain Olympic rowing will be held in Rockhampton. Do you acknowledge that it is not only the government's decision? And is there a plan B if the IOC say it is not good enough? 41:47 – (Jesmine Cheong, SBS World News) Just a couple of questions from NITV. Are you consulting with traditional owners to reach an agreement on preserving cultural heritage at Vic Park, and do you think you'll reach an agreement, or will you override cultural heritage laws? 43:31 – (Andrew Messenger, The Guardian) This is a question for both of you. Both of you have gone through elections in the last year … in neither case the Victoria Park plan was brought to the electorate. Should the electorate have known about this before they voted on it? 47:02 – (Alex Brewster, ABC News) Have you turned your mind to what you might like to see the stadium called? 48:37 – (Hayden Johnson, Courier Mail) Minister King, can I just jump in there and ask you, when you were negotiating with the with the state government, did the Commonwealth put to the state that rowing could be held in Penrith? 49:56 – (Mackenzie Scott, The Australian) The Treasurer David Janetzki has launched his team to start privatisation of certain large infrastructure projects. How much do you expect the private sector to tip, in a monetary sense, into games infrastructure? 51:59 – (Rosanna Kingsun, 7 News) Can you rule out whether there will be a new train station at the Olympic Park, as in the paper, or is that not a consideration at all? And a question for Minister King, what would you like to see the state government and Brisbane City Council include in their new precinct plan? --- The QMC is the official political, business and media forum of the Queensland Parliament Media Gallery.
