The civilians of Welioya have said that they are indebted to the President for affording them an opportunity to return to their ancestral villages after building a peaceful environment. They said in the past, they experienced severe difficulties due to LTTE terrorist activities. But now they can live in their villages without experiencing any difficulties. Members of 325 families received an opportunity of returning to their places of origin after 15 years. The required infrastructure for these resettled families had been provided on the instructions of the President and the guidance of Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa. Minister S.M. Chandrasena who was present at a ceremony organised to resettle the civilians said they would expedite the required initiatives to cultivate more than 1000 acres of paddy. The relevant officials have been instructed to reconstruct the main tanks to facilitate the cultivation process. The Minister had discussions with the people of the Kambiliyawewa village where 18 civilians died in an LTTE attack in 1994.
