Every Friday 7pm UK Time, 2pm ET, 11am PT. ******* Ki Tetzei – “When You Go Out” Deuteronomy 21:10–25:19 Ki Tetzei is comprised of a series of mitzvot (commandments) reaffirmed and embellished from their original forms, as given earlier in the Torah, as well as some new ones introduced. This is the point in Moses’ final address to Israel where the people are reminded of the tenets of the covenant they have agreed to; seventy-four of those mitzvot detailed in this parsha alone. Included in this parsha are the laws of how to treat a woman taken captive following war and how she must be treated with respect before being taken in marriage; the laws preventing the loss of the first-born inheritance (as seen previously with Jacob, Rachel and Leah); the punishment for a rebellious son; the return of lost objects and animals to their owners and even health and safety laws pertaining to the roof of a house; laws that directly address divorce, fornication and seduction, adultery (including protection for rape victims), but a law that harshly punishes false accusations of adultery; also included are ethical concerns, such as the duties of an employer to pay their workers on time, the fair treatment of working animals and the ethical way to treat someone in debt. Amongst these mitzvot are many prophetic Messianic references such as the pronouncement not to leave an executed man hung on a tree overnight due to the curse that would come upon the land, as well as the divorce laws, which provide a glimpse into what would be achieved at the cross. ******* More Information Want to learn more?
