Lyrics and music by Susan L. Lafferty, 2012. Recording made during a virtual worship service, 2020. We were living in India. 2012. And it was the season before monsoon. Dust covered everything. Every leaf on every tree. Every surface in our flat. My spirit was feeling pretty dusty too. Grief. Season of life. As I was abiding in Christ through the Word and prayer, He gently and sometimes humorously showed me "dust" in the Bible. “My life is down in the dust; give me life through Your Word” [Psalm 119:25], for example. Then one day I read this...“You will arise and show compassion on Zion for it’s time to show favor to her…For your servants take delight in its stones and favor its dust” [Psalm 102:13,14]. Delight? Favor? I laughed out loud. And the next day this tender word of comfort, “The Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. For He knows what we are made of, remembering that we are dust.” [Psalm 103:13,14]. Yes. He knows. He is worthy of our praise.
