We need action from Roger Goodell and NFL owners - not more words. #TakeTheKnee #IStandWithKap Transcript: In 2016 San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick began TAKING A KNEE while the National Anthem played before the game. In doing so, Colin joined the larger, growing protest movement to demand justice for Black people in the U.S. The backlash was immediate. This year, he was blackballed by NFL owners But he also inspired countless other athletes to join him. In Alabama rally Trump targeted these athletes and urged the NFL to fire them for their silent, non violent protest. (excerpt from rally): "Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag to say, ‘Get that son of a b*tch off the field right now, out. He’s fired. He’s fired!" Players responded to Trump During Sunday's games, more players than ever took a knee, sat down, raised a fist or stayed in the locker room entirely during the national anthem A coalition of players has asked the league to make November a month dedicated to activism for racial equity and criminal justice reform." The players are on the right side of history. And we have their backs. It's not enough for Goodell and owners to link-arms and call for unity against Trump. But this was never about Trump. This was never about the anthem. This has always been about police brutality, criminal injustice and the 1st amendment right to protest It's past time for the league to take action. Text NFL to 225568
