2022 UTokyo 3MT – Richie Thomas Plummer – Next generation disease modelling "I’m originally from Australia, but I have lived in Japan for almost all my life! My favorite thing to do in Japan is to go snowboarding in the Japanese alps, eat katsu curry for lunch, and then finish the day with a nice hot Onsen. I decided to pursue the medical sciences as I could use my passion for biology to help people. I believe that regenerative medicine is the future of medicine and breakthroughs in this field will have implications for all types of injuries and health issues. My lab specifically focuses on liver regeneration using stem cell therapies. In my research, I am developing a new technology to model human liver disease using something called iPS stem cells. I hope that the knowledge I create will help to develop new therapies for liver diseases in the future."
