Historical & architectural significance St. Martin Church is one of the oldest and most prominent churches in Upper Swabia, serving as a notable city landmark. Its earliest origins date back to the 9th century. The current three‑aisled basilica form was constructed beginning around 1325 and completed circa 1500. On March 7, 1525, representatives of various farmers’ alliances assembled in Memmingen's Kramerzunft and issued the “Zwölf Artikel” (Twelve Articles). Exactly 500 years later, on March 7, 2025, Memmingen launched a full jubilee year titled „500 Jahre Zwölf Artikel“, with a dramatic “Zeitreise 1525” light-and-sound event to mark the occasion.
