Inland Rail leaves a lasting impact in Forbes, New South Wales - February 2026

Inland Rail has reached another significant milestone, completing major construction on the 170km Stockinbingal to Parkes section. This marks the third of 12 sections to become operational and represents a major step towards delivering Inland Rail from Beveridge to Parkes in 2027. The Stockinbingal to Parkes project delivered a strong economic boost to the Forbes region in central west New South Wales, with 22 local businesses supplying goods and services on the project, and 79 businesses from Forbes and Parkes participating in the Inland Rail Skills Academy ‘Pathway to Opportunities’ Supplier Capability workshops. Inland Rail is a 1600km freight rail line that will connect Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, enhancing Australia’s national freight network and supply chain capabilities, connecting existing freight routes through rail, roads and ports, and supporting Australia’s growth.
