Inland Rail completes major construction on Stockinbingal to Parkes section - February 2026

Inland Rail has reached another significant milestone, completing major construction on the 170km Stockinbingal to Parkes section. This marks the third of 12 sections to become operational and represents a major step towards delivering Inland Rail from Beveridge to Parkes in 2027. Since commencing works in September 2023, Inland Rail has delivered critical upgrades to improve efficiency, capacity and safety along the line. Key works completed include a new 2.2km crossing loop at Daroobalgie, lowering the track beneath Wyndham Avenue in Forbes, and modifications to the Lachlan River bridge to allow clearance for double-stacked freight. With three sections now complete and construction continuing between Beveridge and Parkes, we’re on track to deliver a world-class freight network that strengthens Australia’s supply chains and supports growth for generations to come. Inland Rail is a 1600km freight rail line that will connect Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, enhancing Australia’s national freight network and supply chain capabilities, connecting existing freight routes through rail, roads and ports, and supporting Australia’s growth.
