This is Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Curt A25 fifth wheel hitch for a Ford OEM prep package. This is gonna allow you to drop it into your factory Ford puck system and hit the road. Now when it comes to the CURT A25 and Ford OEM prep package, there's two different ways that you can get it installed into your factory puck system. The first one is going to be using the specific Ford OEM puck legs. That's gonna drop in directly to your puck system and your Q25 is ready to go. The other option would be getting it kitted with the adapter rails, and that's what we have here. It's gonna be the same hitch. The feet are different and they're standard to an ISR rail. So that's why that adapter rail becomes important because it drops in just like you would a rail system. But the adapter plate allows you to use the arms to drop those into the factory puck system. So you're accomplishing roughly the same thing. The pros to that one would be that that adapter plate does work with Chevy and GMCs if you flip 'em around, so if you ever plan on moving to a Chevy or GMC from your Ford with an OEM prep package, you'd be fine to swap this over, no problem. Then you can get separate side plates to make it drop into a Ford or a Chevy or GMC just like this. But that adapter plate makes it to where all the big three will work with that. So at the end of the day, same hitch, it really comes down to what you're looking to do with it and if you're gonna hold onto your Ford long term, if that's the case, this is I think a better option because you don't have to gain an extra two and a half inches of that adapter rail and it's just less to take in and out each time. Many times people want to see if this is going to work with an embed toolbox or even a roll-up tunnel cover that has a canister. This is a long bed truck. I got plenty of room here. I don't worry that whatever you're hooking up to is gonna hit your cab corners. You're gonna have full clearance on your turns. But really what's important and sometimes is how your other stuff interacts. And the tunnel cover is one that sometimes can cause issue and the reason being is the height of your fifth wheel can cause this to not close down. So here we have ours in the second lowest position. Each increment is gonna be a one inch. So as I measure this, we'll make sure to measure it from the highest point and we'll see if we still have clearance. This is just a pretty standard aluminum tunnel cover pretty well flushed with the bed rails. So if yours is similar, measurements should be pretty close. So measuring from the bed rail to the top of the tunnel cover, we're looking right at about 20 and a half inches and to the top of our fifth wheel, it's really, it's right at about 15 inches. But again, we have two more inches that we can raise this up in full height. So even then it's at 17 inches, which still gives us plenty of clearance for our tunnel cover. Something else you're gonna want to take in consideration when choosing a fifth wheel is if you need a sliding base or not. This is an eight foot long bed, that's really not an issue. But if you have a short bed truck with the OEM prep package, you might want to consider looking at a sliding option. It's really beneficial for when you're in a tight turn and you need just a little bit more clearance to where you know your RV isn't gonna be hitting the cab corners of your truck. So that slider allows you to slide that back either by getting out and pulling a handle or there's some auto slide features that you can get with the pull right as well as the Demco auto slide, which will do all that for you as you turn, which is pretty cool. Again, with the long bed, not really a concern. Short bed guys though, definitely take a look at a slider. It's gonna help prevent any damage to your truck long term. Taking a look at how it attaches to your king pin, I just have a a small representation of what your kingpin would do. In my unlatched position, you'll see that this is gonna allow us to slide this back and you do need the kingpin to be able to get this to engage, so you're not gonna accidentally have this just close. And something that's unique about this series, which is kind of neat, you don't see on other brands of fifth wheels, is gonna be an indicator to let you know where it's at as far as terms of engagement to that kingpin. So as I take my little dummy kingpin here and engage it, we'll be able to see th
