Special Olympics Powerlifting is an incredible thing to be a part of and more people should have training on how to coach it. The training can be done simply and effectively as long as the coach understands the "why" behind something being done. This series will go into greater and greater depth as it continues but a basic plan is a great place to start. This video showcases 3 possible basic plans that can be expanded upon and altered as the coach sees fit. If no alterations are deemed necessary there are examples on each of the exercises that are NOT Squat, Bench and Deadlift. The three competition lifts will be getting there own videos each. Keep in mind the specific needs of the athlete when choosing exercises and figuring out what level of form specificity they are capable of. This field is so individual it cannot be understated that an understanding of both the movement and the athlete must be there in order to maximize the efficiency of both.
