Watch S scale narrow gage model train action on Paul Scoles' spectacular Sn3 layout during 2010 and 2011. I took these cellphone videos during several operating sessions that Paul held regularly, and people would travel for many miles to attend. Paul's layout was taken down a few years ago after he died, and portions of it can be seen today on various Sn3 layouts in the region. He was a prolific author and photographer of model railroads, particularly for the Railroad Model Craftsman (RMC) and Narrow Gage and Short Line Gazette magazines. He also published three DVD videos, on scenery and operations, and a book "Building Scenery with Paul Scoles", which is still available through White River Productions. I personally was greatly influenced by his work, first as I learned about the joys of car ferry operations, then in his writings on photography, and then as he mentored me in developing operations schemes and invited me to his operating sessions, after authoring an article in RMC on my own layout, which appeared in the January 2008. He was a fine artist and was very generous in giving clinics to National Model Railroad Association (https://nmra.org) groups near and far. His Sn3 layout near Seattle was freelanced and based on the coast-to-desert regions of northern California in the 1895 time period. He build most of his scenery, buildings, track and rolling stock by hand, and installed and fine-tuned his early Tsunami decoders to be as smooth-running and clear-sounding as you see in this video, and was an early adopter of NCE-DCC for wireless train control.
