This is a 21km from Hayfield to Hope without needing a car. Take the bus to Hayfield bus station and this is your start point. From there you go due south from the village up the Penine bridleway before eventually reaching your first peak - Mount Famine. Amazing view point from here across to both Kinder Scout, South Head and Chinley Churn. It's a wonderful first summit for the rest of the hike. A short distance down the hill and then a steep climb up to South Head, the 2nd peak of the route. This peak is marked with a set of stones and affords great views in all directions once more, particularly looking south across Chapel en le Firth and beyond. From there we go into a distinct 2nd section of the hike - the moorland plateau. Climbing up to the 3rd peak of the route, Brown Knoll, this section is characterised by shallow gradient inclines and declines. The long trail across the moorland heads due south crossing the Cowburn Tunnel, before heading due east up to our 4th peak of the hike, and probably the best view - Lord's Seat. Enjoy the tranquility and peace up here because it isn't going to last!! Heading down off Lord's Seat we start traversing the Great Ridge, which divides Castleton from Edale. Probably the most scenic part of this hike, it also is the most popular. The 5th peak - Mam Tor, is without doubt one of the hotspots of the Peak District national park and therefore expect plenty of people sharing your view. You now go along the great ridge past Hollins Cross, and up the short sharp climb of Back Tor, before arriving at the final hike of the route - Lose Hill. Enjoy the wonderful panorama across to Win Hill, before turning down for the final descent down to Hope railway station. A really nice hike with 3 distinct sections!
