In this video Dr O'Donovan (medical doctor) and Ella Boys (physiotherapist) guide you through seven exercises to help relieve Sacroiliac Joint (SI) pain, including clamshells, a piriformis stretch, bird-dog stretch and more. What is the Sacroiliac joint? The sacroiliac (SI) joint is the joint where the base of your spine (the sacrum) connects with your pelvic bones (the ilium). It acts as a shock absorber, transferring the weight of your upper body to your legs. What causes Sacroiliac joint pain? Sacroiliac joint pain can be caused by several factors, including: Injury or trauma: Sudden impact or repetitive stress can irritate the joint. Inflammation or arthritis: Conditions like osteoarthritis or inflammatory arthritis can cause pain. Pregnancy: Hormonal changes and extra weight can put extra stress on the SI joint. Misalignment or instability: Poor posture, leg length discrepancies, or biomechanical issues can lead to pain. The equipment you will require for these exercises are exercise bands which you can purchase here: UK Amazon long resistance bands (for hamstring stretch): https://amzn.to/3QYAYkP UK Amazon short resistance bands (for clamshells): https://amzn.to/42dheiq Content and timestamps: 00:00 Introduction 00:33 - Single knee-to-chest stretch 01:05 - Glute Bridge 01:42 - Arm-leg bird-dog 02:48 - Clamshell stretch 03:27 - Hamstring stretch 03:47 - Low abdominal strengthening exercise 04:19 - Piriformis stretch *Website resources* Red flag symptoms for back pain: https://cks.nice.org.uk/topics/sciati...
