VIDEO | Lorain County man attacks woman in lobby of Elyria Police Department

An investigation is underway after a woman was attacked in the lobby of the Elyria Police Department on Monday, March 10, 2025, at approximately 2:31 p.m. Officials say the suspect, Daniel Carrillo, 38, allegedly wrapped a belt around the victim's neck and began choking her while she was waiting to request a copy of a police report. A police report obtained by 3News states that Carrillo told officers he had initially come to the station intending to kill an officer. However, when he was unable to find one, he chose to assault the woman instead. He also stated that if released, he would try to kill again. Officers noted that Carrillo, who lives in Elyria, claimed to have smoked marijuana before arriving at the department.
