[Stream] Ardy Lightfoot

At my friend Max's prompting, I check out a game he remembers from childhood but which passed me by entirely. Released in 1993 for the SNES, it's outside ASCII's usual wheelhouse of RPGs and horse racing simulators, but they did a great job making a mascot platformer with a fun "furry fantasy anime" world, some cool interaction and movement, and some cinematic touches. Ardy's buddy Pec is reminiscent of Monster World IV's Pepelogoo, and he occasionally gets temporary abilities but Ardy's basic momentum and pogo-tail jump are more interesting, if a little clumsy at times. I was most impressed by the look of the game, it has some really nice flourishes, setpieces, and character designs. The last few levels are a ridiculous jump in difficulty though! I also took a look at both the North American and Japanese manuals, the former has confusingly-worded hints, while the latter has a full-colour comic included and lots of lovely illustrations.
