In this presentation, Dr. Alper Çalikoğlu examines how internationalization is perceived and experienced within the academic profession across diverse higher education systems. Drawing on findings from Internationalization and the Academic Profession: Comparative Perspectives (co-edited by A. Çalıkoğlu, G. A. Jones, and Y. Kim; Springer, 2023), he discusses patterns emerging from the APIKS project’s comparative data. Alper investigates how academics engage with international networks, research collaboration, and mobility, and how institutional and national contexts shape these opportunities. He also considers challenges related to equity, resources, and differentiated participation in global academic spaces. By integrating comparative empirical evidence with conceptual perspectives on globalization and internationalization, his talk invites reflection on the diverse meanings and forms of academic internationalization and how institutions can promote more inclusive and sustainable approaches. Brief bio Alper Çalıkoğlu is Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Education, Nazarbayev University. His research interests include: higher education, international education, educational leadership.
